Alai Osai
Sound of the Waves
A boutique beachfront homestay steps from the Bay of Bengal and the ancient Shore Temple, opening this December.
Our Story
A home tuned to the rhythm of the sea
Alai Osai, Tamil for "the sound of the waves," began as a simple wish: to fall asleep to the Bay of Bengal and wake up within walking distance of one of India's oldest shorelines. Our host, Bino Sebastian, is building a homestay along the East Coast Road, where every window frames either the ocean or a seven-century-old skyline.
This December, we open our doors for the first time, quietly and warmly, just in time for the sea breeze and temple lights of Mahabalipuram's festive season.

Heritage & Culture
Steps from a UNESCO World Heritage Site
Mahabalipuram, also known as Mamallapuram, was once a thriving 7th-century port city of the Pallava dynasty. Today its rock-cut shrines, monolithic Rathas and the wave-worn Shore Temple form a UNESCO World Heritage Site, just minutes from your door at Alai Osai.
Every December and January, the Shore Temple becomes a stage for the Mamallapuram Dance Festival, when classical dancers perform against a backdrop of 1,300-year-old stone and open sky, the same season we open our doors.
- Shore Temple A 7th-century Pallava monument, among the oldest structural stone temples in South India.
- Five Rathas & Arjuna's Penance Monolithic temple chariots and one of the world's largest open-air rock reliefs.
- East Coast Road About an hour's scenic drive from Chennai along the Bay of Bengal.
The best stories about Alai Osai have not been written yet, because they belong to our first guests. This December, that could be you.
